Product Review & Giveaway: Today I Ate A Rainbow!

Have you heard of this company yet?? They're pretty awesome. I can't remember how I stumbled upon the website, but I'm really glad I did! I'm pretty sure it was through a facebook page that mentioned their kale chip video... Anyway, I'm kind of hooked!

I posted a few days ago on how we get our kids eating more fruits and vegetables. Well, Today I Ate A Rainbow! is just one more way to help out - and a really fun and interactive one at that!

There are many aspects to this company and their products. Kia Robertson is the creator and started this company because she wanted her daughter to learn early on to be a great eater, better than she had been as a child. Life gets busy, as we all know, and it's easy to miss out on some of the foods our body needs. The products from this company are meant to help families stay on track, while also making it fun for kids to learn about nutrition and to learn to love healthy foods! They have a website, where you can get recipes, tips, read blog posts, AND see videos of adorable Hannah making things like kale chips and smoothies, as well as singing the rainbow song.

They also have a Rainbow Kit that you can order.  The great thing about this kit is that it's interactive and gets the kids involved in choosing their rainbow colors and getting rewards for eating them in a FUN way. When they've earned a magnet for eating each color, they then are rewarded with the rainbow magnet. We also add a reward of either watching the rainbow song on-line or singing it ourselves. (We don't reward with a sweet treat - the whole point is to eat the healthy fruits and veggies, not encourage other sweets.) ;)

Aiden opening up our new Rainbow Kit!
Aiden, my (just turned) three-year-old, has really been receptive to the rainbow chart! He loves asking about which colors he needs to eat and if he gets his rainbow magnet. And he especially loves the rainbow song! Camden, my 12-year-old, packs his own lunch for school, and I've caught him looking over the chart when he's packing it or after he's home and is getting his snack to see what colors he hasn't eaten yet. Nice! AND don't think the chart is for kids only. Oh no. We've been using it for the entire family. There are four different magnet shapes (circles, stars, squares, and triangles), and each of us has our own shape, since there are four of us in the family. We started out just using the magnets to see how well we already did with eating all the different colors. And we quickly realized the kids were doing better than the parents! Sometimes we focus so much on what they are getting that we forget about ourselves... So, this has been a great tool for getting the kids AND parents to eat all their colors every day. Dear hubby has been caught eating some carrots or raisins, etc, right before bed so he could get his rainbow magnet!

Putting up some magnets after eating a few of his colors for the day!

That's not all there is to the kit, though! There is also a notepad to help you remember to buy foods for each color, a bookmark, and a book about The Rainbow Bunch. Aiden wanted to read the book the second we got it out of the box! It's a great story for kids, showing how the children in the Rainbow Bunch were being affected by not eating enough of their rainbow colors...and then how they improved once they were eating better - more energy, growing healthier, less sickness, better focus, etc. This Rainbow Kit is such a great way to get kids involved in eating better and is so much FUN for the kids, too! To keep up with the latest, be sure to sign up for their newsletter, too.

AND....I happen to have one Rainbow Kit to give away to one lucky reader. (You saw that coming, didn't you? Wink, wink.) Use the box below to enter. There is one mandatory entry: Leave a comment letting us know what color fruit/veggie you have the most difficult time getting your kids to eat and also which is the easiest. The rest are just extras! Notice, there are *eight* ways to enter, and some may be done more than once! Read all instructions, as some entries require action first. (If you "like" Today I Ate A Rainbow on facebook, please let them know Our Growing Family sent you!) The giveaway is open to both US and Canadian residents. Giveaway will be closed Monday, September 19th. Winner will be announced that day!

This would be great for my 'just turned 3' daughter and my older sons!

OK, I'll try this again since I didn't read the instructions well enough. :) It's pretty hard to get our kids to eat yellow things--green for Silas, but Esher loves green things :) and red is by far the easiest.

Don't have any kids but this would definitely be a great gift for Christmas!

But for me...blue is the hardest color. I'm not a huge blueberry fan. Red is the easiest! :-)

My kids will eat all the colours, but they are not crazy about squash. Favorite colours would probably be red.

My daughter is 4 and does pretty well but she isn't very consistent. I know this would help her to do better on a daily basis. My son is two and hardly eats any fruits or vegetables. I am desperate for something that will help him!

hmm...orange i think is our most difficult!! purple/blue would be the easiest.

Red is easiest for sure. We just had a rainbow party and a fruit rainbow was super easy to make and eat.. green is hardest - espcially for veggies, with brocoli being the exception.

Orange is most difficult to get them to eat (squash), red is the easiest. Green can be difficult, too!

Yellow or Red would be easiest...everything else is nearly impossible for my daughter. Sofie has sensory processing disorder which mainly impacts her eating and causes her diet to be very limited. Maybe this would help her!

Maybe it will help mine eat veggies in general, no matter what color!

Jonah has some favorites in all the colors and then some things he doesn't want to try. I think this would help all of us be more aware of what we are and aren't getting.

Love this idea! I am certain it would motivate my 8 year old and 5 year old to make healthy choices by themselves. My kids have the hardest time with the veggies that are green, except broccoli - they love that. I think this kit would also help me to eat healthier. I also have a 4 day old daughter that I am nursing, and I need to eat a rainbow daily to make sure she is getting the vitamins she needs! :)

Soon after my son's 1st birthday, my amazing eater became picky. Green is definitely the most challenging and yellow the easiest. This kit seems so cool!

This is a great giveaway!! For us, blue/purple is probably the hardest to get my girls to eat, and yellow is probably the easiest. I think this kit would be a great tool to get them interested in trying more varieties of foods! :)

For some reason, yellow is the hardest color - kids are hot and cold about bananas, and they do NOT like squash, bell peppers, etc. Even corn is hit or miss!
