Our family is growing in many ways... Growing in numbers, knowledge, parenting skills, growing in love, in our faith, growing our culinary skills (if you can call it that), growing without gluten (some of us), growing green...........

Friday Fill-Ins

1. It's time for BED. But am I there?? Obviously not.

2. My couch; it's not a bad place for relaxing a bit at the end of the night.

3. I must be tired - or overwhelmed - b/c I can't think of anything great to say to most of these tonight. My mind is just too overloaded, I think...

4. Being a mother is the best thing I have ever known. I feel it is my calling.

5. My husband is simply wonderful. He loves me more than I could have hoped.

6. The last time I laughed really loudly was earlier today. Aiden has this "fake laugh" that is hilarious. He'll laugh his loud, fake laugh, then I'll laugh, and then he'll laugh back. And we just go back and forth for a few minutes. It's a lot of fun. :)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting in bed soon (though still too late), tomorrow my plans include ordering Aiden's smash cake for his party next week and then going to an outlet mall to do some serious shopping and Sunday, I want to finally finish mulching the front flower bed - the constant rain keeps stopping me from getting the last little bit finished! Then I can show the before and after pictures from the flower bed - what a difference! (And a lot of work...)

Friday Fill-Ins

Doesn't feel like Friday to me... We've been in KY since Wednesday evening, so it feels like the end of the weekend already! I haven't done the Friday Fill-Ins in quite a while, but thought I could fit one in today. :)

Answers are in bold.

1. Salmon and asparagus make a quick and easy dinner. That is seriously my favorite quick meal - can be on the table in about 15 minutes, is delicious, and is so good for you, too. Can't get better than that! That or a burger and fries from Five Guys...

2. No Other Gods by Kelly Minter (The Living Room Series) is the book I'm reading right now. I recently joined some other Mamas that do a weekly Bible study / playdate, and this is what we are using right now. Pretty interesting. Not really a BOOK that you sit down and just read, but it's about the closest I can get to reading a book right now - unless you count Guess How Much I Love You and The Very Hungry Caterpillar...

3. July brings back memories of camping out at Blue Licks, like we used to do every summer after Mom and Gene got married. That and swimming.

4. The fact that Aiden should have been put back to sleep when he woke up early was obvious to me. Not so much to Daddy, who was the one that went in to get him. Mommy never got him back to sleep after that...

5. They say if you tell your dreams...I don't know what they say. I say, why keep them a secret?? Say them out loud and you might be more likely to make them come true.

6. Give me time to think it over, and I will think and think and think. I'm rather indecisive. One reason why I research things to no end.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to visiting one of my best friends, Sonia, and her kids and seeing her new house in Lexington, tomorrow my plans include seeing a lot of loved ones and having a big birthday bash for both boys since we're here in KY near a bunch of family and close friends, and Sunday, I want to have a quick and cry-free drive back home to NC, with a stop to see Ryan's dad and stepmom along the way! You can never be too sure how Aiden will do with the long car ride, and we're always crossing our fingers for the least amount of crying.
Happy weekend, everyone!

Friday Fill-Ins

1. I grew up thinking I couldn't wait to grow up and be an adult. Now I often wish I was a child again. Life was so much easier back then...(in some ways)

2. Facebook was the last website I was at before coming here, unless you count Google Reader, which is where my blog subscriptions go - and where I got today's Friday Fill-Ins.

3. Why don't you join facebook (and add me as a friend) if you haven't already? It's the place to be - besides my blog, of course. ;)

4. Watching some Friends helps me relax. Ryan and I watch an episode many nights before going to bed. He's waiting on me to watch some right now. I think he's getting impatient....better hurry!

5. Thanks for the help this past week, Mom and Gene!! Gene installed the fans in our living room and bedrooms, as well as the new chandelier in our dining room. The fans were a mess to do b/c he kept running into problems with the ceiling/wiring/etc. But being an electrician, he knew what to do and was a HUGE help!! He also installed the diaper sprayer (we went a couple days without it b/c of the move - and I now know that thing is worth it's weight in gold!) and fixed a door that was barely out of alignment and will now shut easily. And Mom helped me figure out what plants were growing in our yard under the mess growing on top of it all - and she helped with the landscaping up front. The previous owner had the place professionally landscaped and then clearly never touched the place - it is a MESS, and the front was transformed. We found great plants/bushes under all the crabgrass. Wait till you see the before and after pics!

6. The landscaping in front of our house was very off-putting. Now it looks great. I think our neighbors probably love us already just for that.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching a Friends episode with Ryan and then getting to bed before midnight (or one...or three am....) - something that hasn't happened once in the past two weeks, tomorrow my plans include installing Aiden's new car seat and having it checked (where the inspectors will say how wonderfully I have installed it, as usual...b/c I get serious about car seats and all that jazz), working in the yard a bit, cleaning and unpacking some, getting some baby proofing items (so Aiden won't crawl into shelf corners and things like that), and welcoming some friends that are joining us for the week and some that are passing through (we'll have a house FULL tomorrow night) and Sunday, I want to enjoy some time with one of my best girl friends and pack to go on vacation with her and her beautiful boys (and my beautiful boys, too, of course)!

Happy weekend!!

Friday Fill-Ins on Sunday...

...because we moved on Friday and haven't had one extra minute. Still don't, but I'm taking a very quick break (while Ryan isn't around to scold me for being on the computer). ;)

So...here they are! Let's see how short and sweet I can do this...gotta get back to work! Answers in bold.

1. We are now living in our new home.

2. My favorite thing for dinner lately has been anything quick and easy - and things we actually have ingredients to, which is tricky since most things have been packed away!

3. The neighbors have three dogs that go bark! bark! bark! They also have a baby the same age as Aiden. (And invited him to come swim in their baby pool the other weekend....while the dogs sat there and watched. No thanks. Those dogs are pretty big and scary looking to me. But the neighbors do seem to be nice.)

4. A nice long walk around our new neighborhood is something I could use. Maybe in a few days when we can relax a bit more and take time to do something other than unpack.

5. I could use some good news. It seems lately that most news lately is not so good - poor health for some, people not getting along, things breaking or costing too much money (that last one is more with us while the others are more with others). Let's have some more good going around now, shall we?

6. When all is said and done, I'll be able to relax a bit more. But ALL is never completely said and done, is it? It seems there is always more to do.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting all the big stuff into the new house, tomorrow my plans include Camden's soccer tournament (could be three games if they do well - spread throughout the day with no time to go home in between) and Sunday, I want to UNPACK lots of stuff and get some things put away and cleaned up before some company arrives during the week!

Update....Camden's team DID do well - went to the finals and came in second place. It was a long day (and I missed the last game, which I HATED, but it couldn't be helped - will explain later), but the team did really well and deserved it. I'll give more soccer details later, along with pics! For now...it's back to unpacking!!

Friday Fill-Ins

My answers in bold!

1. It's cold and quiet when I go to bed before Aiden wakes to join us. I'm so used to him being there, breathing, nursing, cuddling as close to me as he can (which means more body heat). Sometimes I have a harder time falling asleep when he's still in his bed, probably partly b/c I don't know when he'll wake up and know it could be just moments after I start to drift off.

2. I love fresh tomatoes, and it's about time to start heading to the Farmer's Market for some good local summer produce, including those yummy tomatoes. I love summer foods!!

3. My favorite health and beauty product is coconut oil at the moment. I'm learning all the wonderful things you can use it for. Longer post about it coming up, but it's a great body oil - and is also wonderful for red baby bottoms, if that happens to occur. You have to get the right kind, though. (Like I said, more soon. I have so many things I need to blog about. Just need more time!!)

4. The trip back home is a nice long ride. Who am I kidding...it's just a LONG RIDE. I'm always glad to go back home, but the ride is not a part I enjoy. It's six hours to Ryan's family (longer with traffic and now with a baby, of course), another two to get to my Mom and step-dad, and another two to get to my Dad and step-mom. It's looking like Lexington might be a great place to end up sometime soon - right in the middle and within two hours of all of them!

5. Well, first of all we have to stay here a few more years. Mostly b/c of Ryan's job, which is fine. But it will happen!

6. Some of my closest friends; those were the cast of characters in a recent dream and it was not a dream I remember clearly. I don't dream much these days b/c I don't get to have that deep sleep, and when I do, it doesn't last long. That's what happens with a baby close by! Once he joins us in the bed, I don't have deep sleep at all, which is fine b/c I wake if he needs me. On weekends when we have little to do, Ryan will get up with Aiden...that's when I usually get to sleep well and might have some dreams. :)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to cuddling up with my hubby, enjoying some homemade brownies, and watching some Friends - it's our "dating" anniversary (yes, we celebrate that!); we went on our first date six years ago today (seems like it was just yesterday and at the same time like it was forever ago...), tomorrow my plans include the last swim class of this session (next one starts up next week!) and then try to finish painting in Aiden's new room, and Sunday, I want to finish the paint job in Camden's room! We're hopeful those are goals we can accomplish!

Friday Fill-Ins

Another Friday - time for Friday Fill-Ins! Getting to them late today...been that kind of day. Funny how teething only causes us problems when it comes naptime....

One thing I like about Friday Fill-Ins is reading some others' posts. My friend Connie does them (she introduced me to them), and so does my sister, Lauren. I always do my own before reading theirs - as not to get any ideas, so mine will be original - but it's fun to see how others fill-in their sentences and see how different/similar they are. If you decide to try them out, be sure to let me know!!

Here we go!

1. Moving is kind of fun, I think. It's the packing that's not. But I love the excitement that comes with moving to a new house, a new area, getting to organize and set up all the furniture in a new way. I'm one of those people that likes change.

2. Good sturdy boxes are free at the liquor store. I sure hope our neighbors don't see our boxes and think we're alcoholics, though... We really don't drink that much.

3. My best quality is...hmmmm....I don't know. Anyone want to throw out one? I know I have some great qualities (along with some not-so-great ones), but I'm not really sure what my best one is. I'd be happy to read what you think, though.

4. I'm good at writing with lots of details. Haven't you noticed that by now?

5. In nearly 10 years, my life sure has taken some big turns and changed in many ways. I'm certainly not the same person I was ten years ago! A lot of ups, downs, and times in between have shaped me greatly since graduating from high school (which actually happened 11 years ago..). *Sigh* Camden will be ten this summer. Hard to believe...that he can be that old, that I can have a child that old, that I have been a parent that long...

6. Peace is what I need right now! I've had some things on my mind and would like to be at peace with how some of those things have turned out and with the direction some are going towards. It's so hard sometimes to know whether or not you've made the best or "right" decisions. And sometimes you never know. I would like to be at peace and trust that things are exactly as they should be.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to boxing up a few more things, packing up the car with more boxes to take to the house, and then watching some Friends DVDs with Ryan, tomorrow my plans include purchasing paint for the boys' rooms and starting to PAINT them and Sunday, I want to finish up painting the boys' rooms and maybe (maybe!) get some time in the pool while we still have one we can use (or is that wishful thinking?)!

Friday Fill-Ins

I am actually making time for this, even though I don't really have it tonight. :)

Friday Fill-Ins...Note from creator:
This week, I chose quotes having to do with spring...as always when I do this, feel free to fill-in whatever you'd like; it's more fun that way! Of course, if you know the quote, feel free to fill that in, too! The quotes will be on my blog, should anyone want to see what they are.

My answers are in bold.

1. If we had no winter, we would miss it. And spring wouldn't be all that exciting, either. I love each season, and by the time it is ending, I am ready for the next to arrive. The end of one always has me looking forward to the beginning of the next.

2. People's rudeness and tactlessness will always be a perpetual astonishment to me. There's just no need for it, and it typically doesn't get people what they want, does it (in the long run)? I sure hope not.

3. If I had my life to live over I wouldn't change too, too much. I've not had a perfect life so far, and there is a lot that I wish I hadn't had to go through. But everything has made me who I am today. I appreciate each season, no matter how difficult it has been. Some of the things I wish I could do away with the most - I really wouldn't because they resulted in some of the best things I now have, such as my first born son, my husband, my college education, my (still strengthening) faith, and much of my perspective...just to name a few.

4. I stay a busy, busy lady inside of four and twenty hours. I don't get nights or weekends off, like most of us parents. Aiden still wakes up all throughout the night, and lately some of those awakenings are more than brief.

5. If you've never been thrilled, you should seek it out a little harder. Challenge yourself, do something new that is out of your comfort zone. The thrill would be worth it, don't you think?

6. To be interested in the changing seasons is to be interested in LIFE. My life is constantly changing, just as the seasons are, just as everyone's life is. It's actually quite interesting when you stop to really pay attention.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to maybe packing up a little more and hopefully resting a few minutes at least, definitely with a big bowl of ice cream - maybe that will take this so-far-two-day-long pounding headache away (all that sugary goodness is sure to do it, right?), tomorrow my plans include a make-up swim class with Aiden that is way too early in the morning, then heading over to the new house (we closed today!!) to do some painting prep work, then on to Camden's soccer game (assuming there are no storms and Camden is feeling well enough - both are iffy), and then back home to do things like laundry and all those other typical chores and Sunday, I want to have a day of rest! Is that too much to hope for? Yes, of course... We will need to pack up more and plan out the next few weekends of painting and moving!

Friday Fill-Ins

This week's Friday Fill-Ins....

1. The first rule of working in an office and getting along is have some manners and know what to bring into the office and what not to. What not to...too much of your personal life and emotions as well as rude, selfish behavior. What to bring...lots of goodies to share with everyone and a good "team" attitude!

2. I really don't know if I like clams or not. Don't think I've ever tried them.

3. When I think of carnivals I think of Ferris wheels...or the shoe store, even though I don't shop there.

4. I'm not sure what is my favorite spring flower. So many flowers are beautiful..I like tulips because they bloom so early, but they don't last long at all. I like day lilies - they're big and bright. Everyone assumes I like daisies the best because that's my name, but that's not necessarily so. I like unique flowers that you don't see often, really - and that I don't even know the name of, ones that are bright and bold and really catch your attention.

5. Things on my desk include way, way too much. It's rather cluttered. There are lists of all sorts and just way too many non-desk items. Time to organize again. (I'm good at organizing...not so much on keeping it that way!)

6. Sunshine & heat makes me wanna get outside and soak it up! I love the heat from the sun. I even love the feeling of getting into a hot car before it's had time to cool off. I'll sit there in it a moment before turning the air on (if I'm by myself, that is - it would be too hot for the baby). There is something comforting about it to me.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to hearing all about the field trip - Camden's grade drove two hours to see the NC Battleship, the NC aquarium, and to have lunch on the beach - Ryan went along as a chaperon - they won't be back until after 7pm or so, tomorrow my plans include Camden's soccer game, maybe track down some boxes to start packing up for the move, and calling one of my best friends back in KY, Patsy - it's her birthday, and Sunday, I want to do nothing - but that's not what will happen. It will most likely be filled with lots of laundry, cleaning up, and planning ahead for the next week!

Happy weekend everyone!

Friday Fill-Ins

Tonight's Friday Fill-Ins. Also, my sister has been doing these since I started - check it out!

1. Apparently there's some sort of confusion about how things should really work out to make things fair...or it seems that some people are having a hard time getting it right, at least.

2. Today was a warm, sunny day. We even had dinner on the patio outside. :)

3. 2009 is rather busy and anxiety-provoking so far. The anxiety has been good at some times and other times it was the kind where you didn't know if it would be good or not in the end. We've had a lot go on already this year - and it's not even half over with! It certainly hasn't been calm, that's for sure.

4.I wish people did what was right that was it - none of the drama and competition needed. Not only with me but with some other people I care about. If people just did right by others, this world would be so much better. Why is that so hard?

5. For too long I've been putting up with some things I would rather not. And it looks like I'll have to keep putting up with them. I don't like to bad-mouth people publicly, so I won't say more. But I really wish there was more fairness and justice going around. Again - this would be nice for not just me but some other people going through similar (yet different) things. You know who you are - and you know what I'm talking about.

6. I am not obsessed with researching; I am not! Ok, I totally am. Before making purchases for Aiden - or the rest of us, really, but especially baby products - I research everything like crazy!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a night at home (I've spent each day since last Saturday running around and being far too busy - a night at home relaxing would be nice. Will Aiden cooperate to help a mama out?), tomorrow my plans include Camden's soccer game (and it's in the middle of the day and the high is 90 degrees...NOW I'm missing those morning games) and Sunday, I want to go to church and hopefully not do much else - though it never works out to be so relaxing. Our weekends end up being busier than the weekdays!

PS - Does there seem to be a trend with my answers tonight about fairness and drama and things related that are not so fun??

Friday Fill-Ins

Here is this week's Friday Fill-Ins. My answers are in bold. Happy Weekend, everyone!

1. Join me in wishing Ryan a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. It's on Saturday.

2. Put a little green in your day! Did you know that Earth Day is coming up soon? Next week! Maybe it's time to rethink what you do to help out - or what more you can do. :)

3. Happiness is a choice. You don't buy it. It's not given to you. You can't blame others if you don't have it. It's your own choice to be happy or not.

4. Dazed and confused was my first cd ever. And I still have it. That and the movie - on TAPE. Yep, that's right.

5. I'm waiting for some news. Once I get it, I can finally share. ;) Hopefully it should be really soon.

6. Sleeping in is hard to resist. Very hard. It's almost impossible for me. Even on those days I really plan on getting up early - or even on time...once morning gets here, sleep is just more tempting than anything else.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to no plans, actually - and that's kind of nice, tomorrow my plans include wishing my baby (as in my hubby) a happy birthday (we don't do gifts - but I'll try to think of something nice, aside from the cake I already made him) - and thinking of my friend, Kathy...she's getting MARRIED (but we can't be there b/c of the distance), and Sunday, I want to sit down and watch Desperate with Ryan and relax a bit because even though our weekend seems calm so far, it always ends up being crazy and not at all a break from the week!

Friday, April 10, 2009

Friday Fill-Ins

Here are this week's Friday Fill-Ins. :) My answers are in bold.

1. Being Anonymous is the easy way out. If you're going to state things, even controversial things, have the courage to make yourself known. If you aren't comfortable with that, perhaps you shouldn't be saying it period.

2.My baby is a perfect little guy, sleeping aside. He's perfect in every other way, so should I just embrace the sleep issues instead of dwelling/stressing on them? Maybe so (after all, he kind of comes by them honestly...I have always had sleeping problems, from birth on. And Ryan didn't sleep much as a baby, either. Hmm...)

3. Let me embrace thee, sour adversity... That's it. Sometimes things can turn out to be much better than we expected... You never know. Might as well embrace it, right?

4. April birthdays, warm sunshine, being able to leave a screen door open, and telling Camden to get outside and play are part of what I look forward to most about Spring. (In case you're wondering - my and Ryan's birthdays are both in April, exactly one week apart. And many friends are April babies, as well.)

5. Who needs therapy when there is a nice glass of red wine and a good friend nearby. Of course, I'm still off the wine since I breastfeed so often, and my closest friend that I love to chat with over a glass of red vino is far away.

6. Things related to the real reason for the holiday MUST go into the Easter Basket! No silly gadgets or tons of sugary candy (ok, there will be SOME sugary candy - but very little). The focus is on Jesus rising again - not so much on a bunny and junk-food.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing a little (from what Ryan says he plans - we'll see if it works out for us), tomorrow my plans include celebrating my birthday and possibly going to a make-up swim class with Aiden (and Daddy can come and watch) and Sunday, I want to give Camden a HUGE hug when he returns home from his week in KY and spend some time with Ryan's mom and David, as they are coming to visit for a few days!

Happy Easter, everyone!

Friday Fill-Ins

Here are this week's Friday Fill-Ins. I did this once a few weeks back and have just been crazy-busy the past couple weeks, so I didn't get to it again until now. (I didn't decide to quit after one time, Connie!) ;) Answers are in bold.

1. Why do we have to get out of bed so early in the mornings? I would much rather sleep in until 9 every day. Oh wait - I DO that now... (I would rather be able to do it and not feel guilty about it then.)

2. Going to bed way too late and sleeping in way too late are now habits. Habits that we really want to change.

3. I have a baby that used to fall asleep on his own within 5 minutes of being laid in his crib...and now he might take an hour to go to sleep for 20 minutes. I really think it's separation anxiety kicking in, based on the way he is acting when going down (and when awake).

4. I had never heard the phrase "_____" and it _____. Ok - I'm just going to admit that I can't think of anything here and that I'm not going to stress myself trying to figures something out that is good to say. :) It's ok not to be perfect sometimes. Wow - maybe THAT should be the phrase I had never heard...come out of my mouth, that is....and it sounds just fine to me at this moment. There - how's that!? ;)

5. I'll be going to bed late tonight, like the way I always do. Tonight it's because it was Camden's last basketball game. Ryan coached and we had a little party after the game - and we had to stay until the end. Then come home, get both boys to bed. And we haven't had any time to just relax for ourselves yet - and it's after 10pm. And I'm not the kind that can just come in, do a bunch of work, and flop into bed - I need the down-time before I can go to sleep, even if it means I'm up extra late.

6. How was I to know that I would be such a different parent the second time around. I know there is nine years between them and that I have grown a lot since Camden was born, but I hadn't expected to be so different. I've learned a lot since the first and I'm a very different person, and though I was a good mom when Camden was born, I feel that I've grown so much and put more thought into why I parent this baby the way I do. I don't just do things because that's just how it's done - I parent with purpose and know why I do each little thing.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to maybe sitting down after I finish typing this and watching Private Practice (from last night - we recorded it), tomorrow my plans include Camden's first soccer game, maybe a visit to Babies R Us for a bunch of things we need for Aiden, and hopefully some relaxing time on the couch reading a good book and just being (while Aiden hopefully sleeps long enough to allow part of that), and Sunday, I want to go to church (we've missed some lately and I need it) and then meet some new people and learn some new techniques on how to perfect the cupcake at "Cupcake College" that my good friend Andy is co-hosting!

Happy weekend everyone!

Friday Fill-Ins (Thanks, Connie!)

My friend, Connie, does these "Friday Fill-Ins" over on her blog. I've read quite a few that she has done and always seem to learn something new and interesting. I'm not sure mine will be very interesting. At the moment I'm not in the thinking mood and would rather be on the lying on the couch. That's where I'm headed next...

Here is where the Friday Fill-Ins come from. They include a list of words and blanks for you to fill in on your own. My answers are in bold. Hope you enjoy!

1. I'm coughing, I'm sneezing, I am hoping this won't turn into a sinus infection.

2. Why do I have good organizational skills and not good keeping-it-organized skills?

3. How does this video sharing website work, anyway? I'm trying to find a good way to share our short family videos with family and friends that aren't nearby. I think I found one that will work perfectly, but a couple of the videos I made with our small digital camera are not uploading, even though they fit the requirements... I haven't heard back from them yet.

4. Every morning, I put Aiden on my hip. The first thing I do always has to do with him. I pick him up and take care of him before doing anything else. Besides the fact that I WANT to, he's been in that diaper all night. We need to clean that tushie!

5. I consider myself lucky because I have three wonderful guys in my life, my husband and my two beautiful boys. I really have been blessed and need to remind myself of that more often.

6. One day we’ll see Paris. One of my dreams is to go to Paris, France and visit the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa and the Virgin on the Rocks, two of my favorite paintings, both by Leonardo da Vinci. My hubby says we'll make it. :)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing on the couch, next to my hubby and hopefully getting to bed a little early (or at least not too late, as we usually do), tomorrow my plans include having Aiden's 6-month pictures taken (even though he's almost seven months! shhh...), along with some of the rest of us and Sunday, I want to go to Marbles, a children's museum here in Raleigh, one we haven't been to visit yet. We told Camden we would take him b/c he wants to see this Imax feature about the ocean (and it's basically the same price to see the movie and visit the museum as it would be just to see the movie). We'll be taking Aiden into the viewing, even though we don't have him watch tv. It's only 45 minutes, so hopefully he will do well (and not get scared by the huge screen and sounds)!
